Message: Adaptability
Preacher: Japhet De Oliveira
Refresh: Open with prayer. Read or listen to Psalm 56:1-7.
Read: John 10:1-10 — As you read in the New International Version, note 1-3 insights that arise.
Reflect: Jesus healed the blind man. The blind man sees Jesus for the first time. But his healing superseded the natural physical dimensions. He brought real spiritual sight to the man. He brought him into an encounter with his Savior and his sight was truly restored. Restored to an appreciation of the Christ, the Messiah, the Chosen One, Jesus.
At the same time Jesus spots the group of Pharisees gathered near by and the direct contrast reaction of theirs to His words and healing. So in John 9:39 Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind." Since the dawning of time to that day there had not been a more brilliant revelation of Jesus, than this appearing of God in human form restoring sight to all. The last time they had seen Jesus was in the garden of Eden. Sure he was scattered throughout the last 4,000 years as pillar of fire at night and a cloud by day, as rocks that light left or right, as the Angel of the Lord, Melech, YHWH and its infinite strength, as the fourth man in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. But now He was breathing and living. The second Adam restoring sight to all who would be open.
And herein lies the dilemma...were they open to having their sight restored?
This contrast between blindness, darkness, and the door that you can only enter when you hear the voice, draws me closer to the pressure point Jesus is calling us to.
