Message: A Message from 1 Corinthians 13

Read: 1 Corinthians 13 - As you read in the New International Version, note 1-3 insights that arise.

Reflect: Although this letter is specific to the Corinthians, its message is timeless. Followers of Christ today struggle with some of the same issues Christ followers in 55 AD did. We are all humans and we all fall short of the glory of God. Paul reminds the church in 2 Corinthians that, “God’s grace is sufficient. His power is made perfect in weakness.”  Through God’s grace, we are able to love better. 

This agape love that Paul calls the church to is unique to the disciples of God. In John 13, we find Jesus saying this to His inner circle, “A new commandment I give to you, that you agape one another: just as I have agape(d) you, you also are to agape one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have agape for one another.”

In his book Loveology, John Mark Comer says this about love, “If you want to know what love looks like, don’t look at a dictionary. Look at a Jewish prophet crucified outside Jerusalem. Love is God in the flesh giving his life away for the world.” (p 33)

A church known by their love. A church that fervently loves because they know the well will not dry. A church who’s prioritizes love above all else because they follow a Savior who put love above all else.

Respond: Pray for a fervent love.  

Research: Read chapter 74 “Gethsemane” in the Desire of Ages by Ellen G. White. Reflect on how Jesus prioritized love above all else.
