1 Peter

Teacher: Mark Johnson -> Rebecca Murdock

As you read through 1st Peter, I want you to think about a couple of things.

  • Peter was raised in a fishermen village in the hinterlands of Judea, in Galilee, and became who he is. What was it that changed Peter?
  • Peter addresses troubles and persecution, particularly those in Northern Asia Minor. I've been thinking a lot about how I was raised believing persecution was coming and we would be put in dungeons, we would be put on racks and we would be burned. As I watched the last seven months, I'm reminded of how the Devil is portrayed in C. S. Lewis' book, Perelandra; how he basically just niggles people; just constantly attacks them with minor issues, but just constantly attacks. As I've looked at what's going on in our life, there are just constant little stressful things that raise the level of stress in my mind to a degree that I didn't think would be available. Is that more the way persecution would come in the last days?
  • Peter talks about the resurrection. I want you to think how does the resurrection totally undermine a legalistic view of the gospel.
